Paul Duffield is among five inclusions to Fremantle’s squad for Sunday’s crucial clash with Richmond at the MCG.

Lachie Neale, Jesse Crichton, Matt Taberner and Jack Hannath joined the defender in the 25-man squad that will be trimmed to 22 at 2.30pm on Friday.

The two players out were captain Matthew Pavlich, who has been suspended for three matches, and Hayden Ballantyne, who comes out for two weeks with a hamstring injury.

Fremantle general manager of football Chris Bond said Duffield was a crucial cog in a league-leading backline and would be welcomed back.

“He’s been able to do a fair bit of work over the past couple of weeks so he‘s not going to lose any conditioning and he’ll definitely play,” he said.

Neale missed a chunk of the season through injury but he played four of the past five games in the WAFL.

“His form has been really solid, so whenever he gets his opportunity we’re sure he’ll be able to perform,” Bond said.

Crichton was another whose season has been compromised by injury, but his return to WAFL action has seen him play the past three games and put his hand up for AFL selection.

“Jesse’s been really unlucky this year, but his form has been very good at Peel.

“He can play in a variety of roles.”

Bond said one of the two young talls, Jack Hannath and Matt Taberner, were likely to come in as a replacement for Pavlich up forward.

“We’ve got to get through training tomorrow and see how everyone gets through that,” he said.

“We’ll jump on the plane (on Friday) and finalise our team before that.”

The MCC has estimated Sunday’s crowd will be around 52,000, which would smash Fremantle’s highest ever attendance of 45,436 for a regular season away game.

“It’s our first game at the MCG for the year and our players love playing there,” Bond said.

“We know that the big games get played there so it’s a very exciting time for the club and we know that we’ve got a very tough, hard game ahead of us.”
