Fremantle veterans Nat Fyfe and Michael Walters have experienced delays in their pre-season preparations due to minor knee issues, with Fyfe set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on Thursday and Walters recovering from a similar procedure.

Both surgeries are aimed at ensuring they are fully prepared for the 2025 season.

A scan following an incident while Fyfe was training on the weekend revealed no significant cartilage or meniscus damage, but it was agreed after surgical review that some loose bodies should be removed via arthroscope to help stabilise the knee.

“These bodies can continue to cause issues and surgical removal can provide the most predictable outcome to avoid ongoing symptoms,” said Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty.

“Nat’s recovery is dependent on how quickly the knee settles but if all goes well, he will resume strength work and cross-training within a fortnight.”

Veteran forward Michael Walters had a similar procedure over the Christmas break following an arthroscope on his right knee. Walters has recovered well and is expected to resume with the football program over the next fortnight.

“Michael also had an arthroscope completed over the break following some on-going symptoms in his knee,” Brierty said.

“Pleasingly he has recovered well and the plan is to resume in the football program over the next couple of weeks.”
