As the men’s playing group returns from their Christmas break on January 13, we’re taking a look at the five things we are most looking forward to in 2025.

1. Forward Line Firepower

In 2024, the boys combined for 286 goals, the most our playing group has kicked since the 2014 season (297 goals).

The Club’s three key pillars in Jye Amiss, Josh Treacy, and Luke Jackson combined for 102 of those goals, with Jackson also having to spend significant time in the ruck due to the absence of Sean Darcy. Treacy’s 45-goal year is the most by a Fremantle forward since Hayden Ballantyne’s 49 also in 2014.

Heading into 2025, the trio of talls have played alongside one another in just 35 games, meaning there is plenty of growth still to come.

In addition to the tall timber, the electric smalls brigade adds a dynamic combination of blistering pace, flair, pressure, creativity, and finishing, ready to cause nightmares for opposition defenders.

And who could forget the big off-season acquisition of Shai Bolton! Bolton joins Fremantle with premiership experience and a knack for leaving defenders baffled.

He has kicked over 30 goals in each of the last three consecutive seasons, earning All-Australian honours in 2022. His explosive pace, flair, and ability to break open games with silky ball movement and sharp goal sense instantly add another dimension to an already dangerous attack.

Players with 20-plus goals in 2024: Treacy (45), Amiss (36), Michael Frederick (23), Jackson (21), Sam Sturt (21), Bailey Banfield (20).

2. Big-Time Fixtures!

The Club has several marquee fixtures locked in for the 2025 season, with Freo playing 13 games at Optus Stadium (11 being home games) for the year.

The Annual Len Hall Tribute Game will be under lights on the Friday ANZAC Day public holiday against Adelaide and will highlight three consecutive primetime weeknight games for the first time in Fremantle history.

Fremantle will also play a Thursday night fixture in Round 15 against Essendon at Optus Stadium.

Other teams set to face Fremantle at home this year include Sydney, the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Hawthorn, West Coast, Carlton, and Brisbane - a mouth-watering mix of top-end opposition to see right here at home throughout the season.

3. Milestone Moments for Fyfe & Walters

The 2025 season could see massive milestones for two of the Club's all-time legends, Nat Fyfe and Michael Walters.

Fyfe (240 games) and Walters (239 games) are poised to further cement themselves in the Club’s history books if they play a handful of games in 2025.

Both men need to feature in 10 and 11 games respectively to reach the 250-game career milestone.

More importantly, just five games for Fyfe will see him move past Michael Johnson (244 games) and Luke McPharlin (244 games) into fourth all-time for games played for Fremantle.

Similarly, with Walters, six games in 2025 will see him surpass McPharlin and Johnson, with the latter milestone making Walters the all-time record games holder for an Indigenous player at the Club.

The 2025 season could deliver very special milestones for two of the Club’s greatest-ever players.

4. Life Membership for Brayshaw

Although Andrew Brayshaw might not have the games tally of Fyfe and Walters just yet, the 2025 season will still see the gun midfielder hit a significant milestone in his career.

By playing just four games in the upcoming season, Brayshaw will hit his 150-game career milestone, earning the 25-year-old Life Membership with the Club, adding to the current list of 41 members.

Since being drafted with pick No. 2 in the 2017 National Draft, Brayshaw has made his mark on the Club, quickly earning the respect of his peers for his acts both on and off the field.

Now entering his eighth season with the Club, the co-vice-captain has averaged over 28 disposals per season since 2021, brought up his 50th career goal in 2024, won his first Doig Medal in 2022, and is just 27 tackles away from reaching 800 career tackles.

Brayshaw has gone from strength to strength throughout the years, and we can’t wait to see what 2025 has to offer for our young gun.

5. Our First Home Game of the Year

The Club will kick off its first home game of the season in front of the Purple Army in Round 2 against last year’s grand finalists, the Sydney Swans.

The last time the two sides played in WA was in Round 9 of 2024 when over 46,000 passionate Freo fans packed Optus Stadium for the Friday Night clash.

The Swans prevailed on that occasion, so the boys will be out for revenge on home soil, looking to make an early statement in the year by taking out last year’s runners-up.

Both teams will be desperate to start their season strongly, so the Sunday afternoon clash is sure to be one of the highlight matches of Round 2.
