Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman says ruckman Luke Jackson, midfielder Nathan O’Driscoll and defender Corey Wagner will all be sidelined for the Round 5 clash with Richmond.

Jackson will miss the next two to three weeks after suffering a low-grade hamstring injury during the third quarter of the Bulldogs fixture.

“Luke has sustained a hamstring injury which will see him miss anywhere up to three games,” Merriman said.

Scans have confirmed that O’Driscoll will avoid surgery on his ankle, but will miss four to six weeks.

“He’s (O’Driscoll) had scans which have revealed a syndesmosis injury,” Merriman said.

“That will be treated with a non-surgical, conservative approach, and we will hopefully see him again in four to five weeks.”

Dashing half-back Wagner will miss Gather Round after being subbed out with calf awareness during the third quarter.

“It’s still just calf awareness (for Wagner),” Merriman said.

“He will likely miss this week and return the following week.”

In positive news, midfielder Hayden Young and ruckman Sean Darcy both featured in Peel Thunder’s Round 1 draw against Claremont on managed minutes.
Merriman said both pulled have up well and would be available for selection.

“Really exciting to see them (Young and Darcy) back out there,” Merriman said.

“It was a pretty tense and tight game down at Peel, and it was good to have them (out there) running around.

“They’ve pulled up really well from the game, and they will be available for selection this week.”

Veteran midfielder Nat Fyfe will be a test to play after not featuring at any level of football over the weekend due to knee soreness.

“He’s (Fyfe) looking good. He trained out here today, and he will be available for selection this week with all going to plan on Thursday,” Merriman said.

Sam Switkowski could also make his return, provided he progresses through main training later in the week after spending three weeks on the sidelines with a groin injury.

“He (Switkowski) was very close last week actually,” Merriman said.

“He is going to be a test to play with all going to plan and will be available for selection,” Merriman said.

Merriman confirmed forward Sam Sturt had undergone a knee arthroscope today (Tuesday) for a knock he received at training last month, with the forward expected to miss the next six to eight weeks.

“He (Sturt) had surgery today, and we are still waiting on an official report, but with all going to plan there, we will probably see him again in six to eight weeks,” Merriman said.

Following Walker’s successful shoulder surgery last week, Merriman confirmed the 22-year-old would be out for the next three to four months as he starts his rehabilitation program.

“It was his (Walker’s) first day back at the Club today and he is in really good spirits,” Merriman said.

“He will be a three- to four-month turnaround with that shoulder.”

Young draftee Charlie Nicholls (back) is one week away from making his return to football following his back injury.

“He’s getting close. It’s really exciting for Chuck (Nicholls),” Merriman said.

“He’s been building his training loads and he’s chomping at the bit to get out there with his teammates.”
