Bring effort or risk losing your place in the team – that’s the message from Ross Lyon as Fremantle rounds out the home and away season ahead of a finals assault.

The senior coach told 6PR’s Sports Today a number of senior team regulars were still to return, leaving the club with some tough selection decisions over the next few weeks.

“There’s competition for spots and you really need to bring the effort we’re after to keep commanding your spot,” Lyon said.

“We’ve got four that have probably been entrenched in the team out – (Clancee) Pearce, (Garrick) Ibbotson, (Luke) McPharlin and (Stephen) Hill – and some more pressure coming from Peel.”

But Lyon couldn’t question the application any player in the team has brought with them.

“I’ve been thrilled with our group’s consistency of effort, their will to win,” he said.

“No doubt we’re starting to play our best football, and we need to continue that over the next three weeks.”
