Fremantle’s new-look forward line might be a work in progress, but star goalsneak Michael Walters isn't feeling any extra pressure to hit the scoreboard while that chemistry develops.
Freo have launched into a new era focused on youth and will be without club great Matthew Pavlich (retired) and pressure forward Chris Mayne (Collingwood) in attack this season.
Fremantle has experimented during the JLT Community Series, with Walters looking the club's most dangerous forward in the loss to West Coast and booting three majors in after-the-siren triumph over the Pies.
But the 26-year-old, who has led Freo's goalkicking in three of the past four campaigns and formed a lethal partnership with Hayden Ballantyne, is confident the Dockers have a spread of threatening forward options.
"You've got guys like Jonathon Griffin, who has stepped up and has played some good footy down there (in the pre-season)," Walters said.
"You've got Aaron Sandilands floating down there, Cam McCarthy is starting to find some form as well, especially after being out for a year.
"You've got (Shane) Kersten as well. I don't really find myself as the main guy down there.
"I'm just happy to play my role and make sure all us boys find our chemistry and work together as a team."
Walters has recently signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to the club until at least the end of 2020.
The new deal caps a big month for the respected Fremantle Docker, who has been elevated into the leadership group for the first time.
"(I re-signed) mainly because of the future of the footy club. There's a young group of kids coming through now that I see have a big future ahead of them," Walters said.
"For me as a leader, I want to stay with them and help them out and make them the best footy players they can be."
Meanwhile, forward Shane Kersten has been cleared of serious injury after being sent for X-rays on his ribs following a heavy landing during the win over Collingwood in Mandurah.
Walters said Kersten trained on Tuesday morning and is in the mix face Carlton in Freo's final pre-season hit-out at Domain Stadium on Friday night.
