Fremantle face a challenging week at selection after suffering a number of injury setbacks on a dramatic day in Adelaide last weekend.

Senior Coach Trent Cooper has told 6PR Sportsday that he may have 21 fit players to choose from ahead of their Round 8 clash with Collingwood at Fremantle Oval on Sunday afternoon.

“We’ll still put a side on the park that we think can challenge Collingwood,” Cooper told 6PR.

“We are waiting on scans but Cuthbertson (ankle) and O’Sullivan (shoulder) are highly unlikely and probably Wielstra (knee) as well.”

Cooper also confirmed Tahlia Read hurt her wrist in a scrimmage (for non-selected players) before the senior AFLW side lost a hard fought clash to the Crows after being over-run in the last quarter.

“The girls were very brave to lead them up to three quarter time and we’d lost three players before half-time,” Cooper said.

“Obviously, the rotations hurt late in the game particularly playing a side as good as Adelaide.”

Cooper says Fremantle remain up for the test against the fourth-placed Magpies.

“Our best game for the year was against Melbourne and I thought we were even better on the weekend,” Cooper said.

“It’s heading in the right direction. It’s not going to translate into anything as far as finals go. But we’ve been really pleased the group has been able to remain positive and keep going forward.

“We want to be a top four side so that’s what we’re aiming at. These last two weeks have been great to play top four sides (Melbourne and Adelaide) and we get that opportunity again when we play Collingwood this week.

“We get to play a side that’s right in the finals action and we get to test ourselves - even though obviously we’re going to struggle a little bit for availability this week.”
