Growing up in Victoria, Will Brodie found a love for Fremantle and Michael Barlow, and now finds himself as the Club’s newest recruit.
Brodie was Fremantle’s first player trade of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, securing the former Sun and picks 19, 61 and 69 in a deal with Gold Coast.
At 23 years of age, Brodie fits seamlessly into Fremantle’s young brigade, and is excited about the prospect of helping his new Club reach its full potential.
“It’s all getting a bit real now. It’s surreal, I can’t wait,” Brodie said.
“It’s super exciting, you look at the group and there’s a lot of awesome players and everyone’s got such a bright future ahead of them.
“The potential of the group and the future they have with all of the young players who will just continue to develop and get better and better every year.
“I feel like the next 5-10 years could be really special for the Fremantle Football Club.”
In a somewhat full circle move, Brodie said that former Freo Docker Michael Barlow was a major part of why he was attracted to supporting Fremantle while growing up.
“I actually really liked Freo growing up, I watched them a lot,” Brodie said.
“I was a big fan of Michael Barlow, and I liked wearing the purple around school. It’s funny how it works out.
“There was a few there that I liked watching… obviously Matthew Pavlich and David Mundy, Fyfe as well.”
Brodie hopes he can add value to the Fremantle line-up in 2022, and play the role set out for him by senior coach Justin Longmuir.
“I just want to come in, gel with the group and hopefully fit in,” Brodie said.
“(I want to) execute my role, whatever that may be, and just get to know everyone and have a good time doing it.
“(I’m looking forward to) playing, developing and training with some of the young guys like Sean Darcy, Andy Brayshaw and Caleb Serong who are guys that will just continue to get better and hopefully push each other to be great.”
