Adam Cerra in action at training at Optus Stadium on Saturday

Midfielder Adam Cerra, ruckman Sean Darcy and defender Griffin Logue face fitness tests to play in Saturday’s round one clash against Melbourne at the MCG.

Cerra has been recovering from a calf strain, which kept him out of Fremantle’s AAMI Community Series clash against West Coast a fortnight ago.

Darcy is also close to being available for selection after injuring his knee at training in January.

Executive general manager of football Peter Bell said Wednesday’s training session would be telling on whether the trio could play.

“They’re going really well. Adam has progressed perfectly and he’ll have to get through main training tomorrow. We’re very confident he will as he’s had no issues with that calf,” Bell said.

“Sean did a massive session on Saturday at Optus Stadium, so we’ll assess him post main training (on Wednesday) as well.”

Bell confirmed midfielder Darcy Tucker would miss a month of football after injuring his left hamstring in a pre-season game for Peel against Perth on Saturday.

Tucker was building his match fitness after returning from a tendon injury in his right hamstring from round eight last season.

“Darcy performed well against West Coast in the AAMI pre-season match but unfortunately, on his other hamstring to the tendon that he injured last season, he’s got a strain sustained in the game against Perth,” Bell said.

“That looks like a 28-day hamstring.”

In positive news for Fremantle’s forwards both Michael Frederick (calf) and Sam Sturt (ankle) are one week away from returning to playing football.

“Michael’s coming along, but more than likely, we’ll need another week and then hopefully he’ll be right for round two,” Bell said.

“Sam is another who was reintroduced into (the football program) last week. He did a big session on Saturday,” Bell said.

“It’s about building volume and minutes with Sam and we’re looking forward to getting him out there playing really soon.”

Bell said new draftees Nathan O’Driscoll (shoulder) and Brandon Walker (foot) are close to recovering from injuries sustained prior to their selection at Fremantle.

“(Nathan and Brandon) both trained very well at Optus Stadium on Saturday,” Bell said.

“They got some good minutes into them so we’ll build them up and they wouldn’t be too far away from playing.”
