Thanks to the generosity of Fremantle’s members and supporters, we are thrilled to announce the club has set a new fundraising record for the annual Starlight Purple Haze Game, smashing last year’s result of $205,804.
The record total for 2020 is $252,407.96, bringing the total raised for the Starlight Children’s Foundation since 2003 to $1.8 million dollars to help brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.
A big thank you goes out to all of the generous Freo fans who donated, as well as key supporters in the Dowson Family, The Sirens and Selby Lee-Steere.
In a new initiative for 2020, Freo fans showed their support for Starlight Purple Haze by pledging funds for every goal Fremantle players kicked during the Purple Haze game, helping to raise more than $53,184 on game day.
Starlight fundraising partner South32 then matched the Freo fans' donations up to $50,000 to further boost the money raised on the day.
The Dowson Family along with the community of Kalgoorlie also raised a record $100,926.76. Phil and Haylie Dowson have now raised more than $450,000 since 2009, which a truly amazing effort from the Goldfields family.
The Sirens, led by Diane Meakins raised more than $21,000 through several events during 2020 and Selby Lee-Steere donated a generous $32,000 from his fundraising efforts through his AFL Fantasy tips in 2020.
Starlight state manager, Valerie Deal said Starlight were overjoyed with this year’s fundraising result.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the incredible generosity of the community and support of Fremantle Dockers Football Club and South32 to achieve our most successful Purple Haze in 18 years,” Deal said.
“The result will enable Starlight to bring much joy to sick kids in a time when it is needed most. Our sincerest thanks.”
