Justin Longmuir has revealed that Michael Frederick will not play against GWS this Saturday at Optus Stadium.

The Fremantle senior coach said that leaving Frederick out of the side came down to a decision to continuing to manage players ahead of their condensed fixture.

The clash against the Giants commences a run of four games in 15 days for Freo.

Last week against Sydney, Fremantle rested Brett Bewley, who Longmuir said would come in for Frederick.

“Michael Frederick is going to be managed this week, it’s been on the cards with Mick for a few weeks,” Longmuir said.

“We’re about to go away to a hub and we’re going to have a condensed fixture.

“It’s a good opportunity to give him a week off and give him a good run into the Richmond game (on Wednesday), so Bewley will come in for him.”

Longmuir had high praise for the 20-year-old, saying the midfielder’s contribution on and off the field had little to do with the omission.

“To be playing AFL footy this soon is a great credit to Mick,” Longmuir said.

“The workload that he puts out each week is phenomenal for someone his age.

“I think he’s probably the best young runner I’ve seen come into the system in terms of the intensity and the amount he runs.

“He’s due for a spell and we’ll rest him up this week.”

The full team will be announced on fremantlefc.com.au at 4.20pm on Friday.
