Freo rules out Saints pair
Fremantle says it is not interested in acquiring St Kilda pair Brett Peake and Farren Ray
FREMANTLE has no interest in recruiting St Kilda pair Farren Ray and Brett Peake despite speculation the Saints will have to off-load players due to salary cap constraints.
Ray and Peake are yet to sign new contracts with St Kilda, and speculation had linked them to Fremantle due to their West Australian backgrounds and relationship with former St Kilda coach Ross Lyon.
Fremantle football manager Chris Bond categorically stated his club did not have Ray and Peake in its sights but said there had been positive talks with the Brisbane Lions over getting Mitch Clark to Fremantle.
"Yeah there has been [progression]. We'll keep working with Brisbane on that and hopefully we can come to some arrangement," Bond said as he left Etihad Stadium on day one of trade week.
"You're only confident when it gets over the line. We are, we've got Mitch who wants to come to us and we'd like to get a trade done and to have him at the club by the end of trade week I think helps everyone involved."
Bond said Port Adelaide had shown interest in trading for ruckman Jon Griffin but reiterated that he was in Fremantle's plans for 2012.
"They've shown some real interest in Jon but from our point of view with Ross coming on board he has said Jon is a required player and we've told any club with any interest in Jon in regard," Bond said.
