The Fremantle Football Club joins the football community in mourning the passing of Len Hitchen, a revered figure whose contributions to the Club and the broader WA Football landscape leave an enduring legacy.
Hitchen served as a Director on Fremantle’s Board from 2001 to 2007, bringing his vast leadership experience and unwavering passion for the game to the Club.
In addition to his role as Vice President between 2002 and 2005, Len also served on Fremantle’s interim Board in 1994, helping shape the foundation of the Club during its formative years. His steady guidance and commitment were pivotal in the Club’s growth and evolution.
Beyond Fremantle, Len’s influence spanned grassroots, WAFL, and AFL levels. He was a Life Member, former President, and Board Member of the East Fremantle Football Club, where he presided over a golden era of success in the 1990s. He also served as President of the Applecross Football Club, demonstrating his lifelong dedication to developing football at every level.
In 2008, Len was inducted as a Life Member of the West Australian Football Commission, WA football’s highest honour, recognising his immense contributions to the sport.
