"IT'S BEEN COMING" SAYS DAVID MUNDY

Ross Lyon
wasn’t worried about the scoreboard that showed his team behind for the majority of the game against lowly Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, keeping the faith in the performance indicators, which were heavily slanted in Freo’s favour.

Lyon said he felt Freo had gained the ascendancy after quarter time but had failed to capitalise on its good work.

“I thought, after quarter time, we dominated the second, but our inability to score in the second, 15 entries for 2.3, was a bit frustrating,” he said.

“But once we fixed those things, our leaders in particular, Matthew Pavlich, David Mundy, Luke McPharlin and Matt de Boer, really stood up and got to work.”

The senior coach said his side had gained “full control”, particularly after half-time.

“The third quarter I thought we really dominated - they just had a little burst late,” he said.

“In the end, the last quarter was probably a true reflection of what happened in the second quarter, we dominated the game.”

Lyon labelled the early deficit as “irrelevant” and said he was always confident because of the statistical landslide in favour of his team after quarter time.

“The indicators are telling you, if you keep going and keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll get the result,” he said.

“The scoreboard wasn’t a true indicator of the game.

“There were good signs of resilience for this team and we will take it and move forward and prepare, review and stay in the moment.”
