WAFL Watch - Round 22 - Midfielders
Find out how our midfielders fared in the WAFL
Haiden Schloithe (SF) 27 disposals (17 kicks, 10 handballs) 7 marks
Haiden played inside mid and played on Motlop for the first half and did a good job . He was tagged himself in the second half. He showed really good energy levels and consistently initiated contact around the stoppages in order to get front position. We were happy with this intensity and he put his head over the ball and attacked the contest. Haiden has played some solid games over the past fortnight and is building on his game.
Nick Lower (P) 22 disposals (14 kicks, 8 handballs) 4 marks, 5 tackles
Nick worked really hard in contested efforts and showed genuine effort. For the entire game he had a hard tag in Byron Schammer. Nick was strong in the contest and won 10 clearances. Overall, his intent and courage was present in a tough day for Perth.
Sam Menegola (EF) 30 disposals (14 kicks, 16 handballs) 6 marks, 1 goal
It was a positive day for Sam as he played predominately on the wing with brief spells as a high forward. He worked very hard from contest to contest and ran over 14kms. He came in very hard off the wing from center square bounces and showed some quality disposals. For us we were really happy that Sam looked to get involved and showed improved running patterns, which was reflective in his high possession count.
Cam Sutcliffe (EF) 23 disposals (16 kicks, 7 handballs) 5 marks, 1 goal
Cam played a mixture of wing and midfield. It was great that East Fremantle senior coach Steve Malaxos played Cam as an inside midfielder, which was good for his learning and development. He showed strong run and carry to break the lines and he was involved in a number of creative plays. He showed some solid run defensively to help out the defenders.
Jay van Berlo (WP) 20 disposals (13 kicks, 7 handballs) 7 marks
Jay played in the midfield with stints as a high forward and defender. He worked hard throughout the game. He showed there were definite improvements around his body work at stoppages. On numerous occasions he attracted the ball through the corridor and executed the short hit-up kick well. It was a tough day for West Perth.
Alex Forster (SD Reserves)18 disposals (11 kicks, 7 handballs) 4 marks, 1 goal
Alex played inside midfield. He positioned well at stoppages and won the ball at center square bounces and midfield throw ins. We felt that the move into the midfield was successful for Alex as we are trying to build his running and his use by foot was good.
