Defenders

Alex Silvagni played a solid game for Claremont in their win over Perth last Saturday. The 24-year-old has been focusing on aspects of his game over the past month and assistant and senior development coach Simon Llyod said it was reflective in his game.

“Alex’s main development focus over the past three to four weeks has been on his run and rebound,” Lloyd said.

“We all know that he is very good when the opposition have the football, he is good at the one on one defensive side of his game.

“Over a course of time at training and games, Alex has been focusing on his positioning when Claremont wins the football and what he is actually doing during that time.

‘He has shown that he is getting better in that area and there has been definite improvements in his skill levels.”

The medium defender got a fair bit of the football in last week’s game with a season high 15 marks.

“He did get a lot of the football and also used it well,” Lloyd said.

“Alex has worked out what kicks he uses well.

“You’ll find that post every training session he is rehearsing those kicks. “

Alex Silvagni (C) 24 disposals (20 kicks, 4 handballs) 15 marks

It was an excellent game for Alex in a team that was dominant over Perth, but we were really pleased in his ability to position defensively and he has really worked on his run and rebound. He was able to actively spread and find space to be used. The fact that he was able to break into space was why he had such a high possession count.

Dylan Roberton (EP) 10 disposals (10 kicks)
Dylan played across half-back. We were really happy with his positioning, which is what you expect of an AFL player. He provided solid run and spread from half-back. Whilst he didn’t have a lot of the ball, when he did have it he carried it well and kicked long to advantage. He controlled the opponents he played on and gave a solid effort over four quarters.

Antoni Grover (S) 16 disposals (14 kicks, 2 handballs) 6 marks
Antoni played both high and deep as a defender. It was a solid effort from Antoni against a high number of inside 50 entries. As always a feature of his game was his body work and his checking of opponents and for most part of the day his efforts in running off to create the switch of play were very productive.

Jordan Wilson-King (SF) 16 disposals (12 kicks, 4 handballs) 5 marks
Jordan played across half-back. It was the most accountable game we have seen him play, where he was continually referencing his opponent. At times his use by foot let him down, which is usually one of his strengths but it was good that he was working on the defensive side of his game.
