Fremantle midfielder Nat Fyfe says he expects to be targeted by a physical Hawthorn in Friday’s Preliminary Final but he will not be the only one.

The back-to-back AFLPA MVP was in Hawthorn’s sights in the round 15 clash in Launceston and he expects no different at Domain Stadium.

Fyfe said there were plenty of key players for both teams who would be in the firing line come bounce down.

Purple army an extra player

“Once you start playing consistently in the midfield and get plenty of ball, opposition teams target you,” he said.

“Stephen Hill has been targeted for a number of years.

“We have opposition targets as well.”

The 72-point loss in round 15 to the back-to-back premiers was the greatest losing margin under senior coach Ross Lyon.

Fyfe said Fremantle would again review the game ahead of Friday’s blockbuster.

Match Preview: Fremantle v Hawthorn

“We’ve had a good look at the Launceston game and what went on down there,” he said.

“We’ll have another look at it tomorrow in our opposition review.”

The Hawks have arguably the best midfield in the competition with Sam Mitchell, Luke Hodge, Isaac Smith and Liam Shiels, part of a versatile group.

“Clearly they are a powerful midfield with tricks up their sleeves,” Fyfe said.

“Hopefully, we are ready to combat that.”
