Matthew Pavlich admits his three-week suspension for a hit on West Coast’s Mitch Brown has hurt the team at a critical juncture of the season.

The Fremantle skipper will miss games against Richmond at the MCG, Adelaide at Patersons Stadium and Carlton at Etihad Stadium.

Pavlich told Channel 7 the high contact in the Carlton Mid Derby was a split-second decision that went wrong.

“More often than not, hopefully, over 280-odd games, I’ve made the right decision, but clearly in this example I made the wrong decision and it cost not only myself, but clearly the team at a really important time for the club,” he said.

Pavlich admitted there was a temptation to challenge the Match Review Panel’s decision at the AFL Tribunal, but the price was too big to pay if it failed.

“We were pretty close at one stage to pushing the button, but I’ve missed a lot of footy and the risk of missing four weeks instead of the three was probably too much at this point of the season,” he said.
