Matthew Pavlich emerged unscathed from his first game since round 3 and is looking forward to improving with every game.

The Fremantle captain kicked two inspirational third quarter goals in the space of a minute to help Freo break away for a 30-point win over St Kilda on Sunday.

He said it was a nice feeling to be back out in front of the Freo fans, kicking goals and leading the team.

“It was good to get on the end of the work from some of the clearance guys," Pavlich said.

“More importantly, we’re just happy that we got through and that we got the points.

“It was good to be back.”

The Saints made Fremantle fight hard for the victory, leading at half-time by seven points.

Pavlich said the team was very displeased with its efforts in the first two quarters, something that was made clear during the break.

“It was pretty stern from Ross (Lyon) and some of the leaders,” he said.

“We were using the ball really poorly and our contested possession and hunger for the contest was down.

“It was disappointing given the way we played last week against the Cats.

“But to the boys credit, we ground out the victory.”

The skipper said he’d now wait to see how he pulled up from his first hit-out.

“I’m really happy to get through and this is a good base to push forward from,” he said.
