When Tendai Mzungu first met five-year-old Harri Sanger in August 2012 at Princess Margaret Hospital, he was in a wheelchair and undergoing a bout of chemotherapy.

The two will reunite again this Sunday when Harri runs out with the team onto the MCG for the big clash against Richmond.

“I can’t wait to see him again and run out with him,” Tendai said.

“I heard he is wearing the number 13 so that’s pretty exciting for the both of us.

“Hopefully he enjoys the moment and the experience because he’s been through a lot and he deserves it. “

A little more than a year ago, and only days after celebrating her son’s fifth birthday, Harri’s mum Danielle Sanger recalls the phone call that changed her life.

“We were told that Harri had a growth which was an aggressive, malignant tumour of the bone called Osteosarcoma,” she said.

“That type of childhood cancer is incredibly rare.

“No parent could ever imagine receiving a phone call like it, we were devastated.”

For Danielle, this weekend’s special experience at the ‘G will be incredibly emotional.

“Harri was a bit lost for words when I told him about Sunday, he is really excited,” she said.

“This time last year Harri was in a wheelchair after a 19-hour surgery to save his arm.

“His left arm couldn't be moved, he was bald and enduring intense chemotherapy.

“To relive that picture in my head and then imagine him running onto the MCG with the Freo Dockers on Sunday is a little overwhelming.”

“Harri is amazing, life is good and we cherish every day.

“This is going to be such an amazing life experience for him.”
