Exciting draft prospect Michael Frederick is getting stuck in at training and is enjoying going head to head with Freo’s more senior players on the track.
There’s been a lot to like about the running midfielder since he joined Fremantle in November, making an almost seamless transition into full training in the past month.
The 19-year-old hopes to soon compete for one of the vacant wing roles, with the likes of Brett Bewley and new signings Blake Acres and James Aish likely to play on the outside in 2020.
Frederick said it has been easier to settle in alongside Acres and Aish, who are also new to Fremantle this season.
“It’s been good going through the same things with them,” Frederick said.
“Off the track James has been a big help and I’m living with Mitch Crowden as well, so I talk to him a fair bit at home.
“On the track Blake, he’s been really big for me, just with stoppage work and where to position myself on the wing.
“I’m mainly working with the midfield group and every now and then I’m training with the forwards working on a bit of small forward craft but I’m mainly in the midfield group working on things like stoppages.”

Frederick said he’s pleased with his progress on the track.
“It’s going well. Obviously, it’s been a big step up from SANFL footy,” Frederick said.
“I’m into full training, whereas the first couple weeks we were, I wouldn’t say held back, but we didn’t do all the drills.
“We’d sit out for a couple and do some running and join in the next drill.
“Right now, we’re into the swing of things and that’s been really good.”
