Former Fremantle midfielder and 2000 NAB AFL Rising Star Paul Hasleby will be one of eight inductees into the Western Australian Football Hall of Fame at a function in Perth on Wednesday night.
The Western Australian Football Commission established the WA Football Hall of Fame in 2002 to recognise players, coaches, umpires, administrators and media representatives that have made a significant contribution to football in WA.
The hall of fame features 153 members and 15 'Legends'. Eight more members will be inducted at a function at the State Reception Centre in Kings Park on Wednesday night, and one member will be elevated to 'Legend' status.
The new legend will join Haydn Bunton jnr, Barry Cable, George Doig, Graham 'Polly' Farmer, Stan 'Pops' Heal, Denis Marshall, Phil Matson, Merv McIntosh, Steve Marsh, George Moloney, Graham Moss, Jack Sheedy, John Todd, WJ 'Nipper' Truscott and Bill Walker.
Hasleby played 208 matches for Fremantle after he was drafted with pick No.2 in the 1999 NAB AFL draft. He won East Fremantle's best and fairest in 1999 as an 18-year-old and he was named the NAB AFL Rising Star in 2000.
Hasleby was named All Australian in 2003. He also played and coached South Fremantle in the WAFL after retiring from AFL football in 2010.
Two-time Carlton premiership player Syd Jackson is also being inducted. Jackson played 136 matches with the Blues between 1969 and 1976. He was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century in 2005.
Decorated WAFL players Con Regan, Kevin Clune, Tom Grljusich, John Wynne and Stan Nowotny will also be inducted. Long-time football radio commentator Oliver Drake-Brockman is also among the inductees.
