The only man in the Fremantle team to experience grand final week in a two-team town has told his teammates to enjoy the build up.

Danyle Pearce was a member of the 2007 Port Adelaide team that qualified for the AFL’s decider, ultimately losing to Geelong.

He said he felt fortunate to be involved in another Grand Final, because there was never a guarantee you’d be there again.

“If I can say anything it will be to just really enjoy it and embrace it and look forward to it, because it doesn't come around too often,” Pearce said.

“It’s the first time in the club's history, so I know it's going to be exciting and, hopefully, we get a fair few fans over to Melbourne and hear their support.”

Freo trained in front of thousands of fans at Tuesday’s open session, and the port city has jumped on board Ross Lyon’s side in its quest to achieve greatness.

Pearce’s Power team experienced a similar wave of support in Adelaide, but they lost the 2007 decider by 119 points to a powerhouse Catsside.

The 27-year-old said hype had no part to play in Port Adelaide’s performance.

“We ran into a real big juggernaut,” Pearce said.

“I really haven't thought about that game too much, but I can't recall us playing too well either.”

Pearce described his move from the Power to Freo at the end of the 2012 season as a win-win situation.

Port climbed from 14th last year to top six this season, including a resounding elimination final win over Collingwood.

“They’ve had a great year and they put up a great fight last week against a really great side in Geelong,” Pearce said.

“As for myself coming here, Fremantle's been fantastic.

“It's been a great year so far, but we've got one more game to go and, hopefully, things go well.”

Pearce said the main message in the Freo camp this week was not to do anything differently, bar the uncontrollable events, such as the Grand Final Parade.

“You really don't change anything, it's the same routine, the same meeting, the same lead up,” he said.

“We’ll enjoy the parade, but we will just prepare like we have done for the past 24 rounds and make sure we are ready for Hawthorn onSaturday.”
