WAFL Watch: Round 9 - Midfielders and rucks
Find out how Freo's players fared playing for Peel on the weekend
Jon played primarily in the ruck against Brock Higgins and Marlon Pickett, with short stints forward. He positioned and impacted in big man positions, hitting the packs with momentum and forced the ball to ground often. Jon also showed some strong bodywork in stoppages.
Hayden Crozier - 27 disposals (19 kicks, 8 handballs), 7 marks, 6 inside 50s
Hayden played as an inside midfielder opposed to Ryan Cook and Tim Kelly. He had it 24 times and found the footy through staying close and working hard from contest to contest. He got better in congestion as the game wore on and it was a good experience for Hayden to go through the midfield.
Clancee Pearce - 13 disposals (5 kicks, 8 handballs)
Clancee played on the wing for a quarter until he injured his right shoulder. He did have a strong impact early on the wing, and had an impact with his hands around the clearance.
Jacob Ballard - 25 disposals (14 kicks, 11 handballs), 6 marks
Jacob played in defence in the first quarter and then went on the ball for the last three quarters. He demonstrated some strong clearance work inside with nine clearances. His attack on the ball was a real feature of his game and he’s looking really strong around congestion.
Sam Menegola - 18 disposals (9 kicks, 9 handballs), 5 marks, 6 tackles, 1 goal
Sam played as an inside midfielder tagging Haiden Schloithe. He was really strong around the contest and had some quality use passages. He stuck to his role for four quarters and showed some strong pressure around the contests. A solid game from Sam, he played his role.
Anthony Morabito - 11 disposals (9 kicks, 2 handballs), 6 inside 50s
Anthony played predominantly on the wing and spent small amounts of time as an inside mid. While he didn’t have a great impact on the game, there were some strong passages where he showed good burst run with a change of pace and breaking the lines, and also a couple of strong spoils in preventing South Fremantle from getting it forward.
Josh Simpson - 11 disposals (5 kicks, 6 handballs), 1 goal
Josh started in defence and moved to the wing. He showed some good composure with ball in hand and worked hard to protect his teammates. He had a good smother, which he collected the ball from and kicked a goal from outside 50.
Craig Moller (Reserves) - 14 disposals (7 kicks, 7 handballs), 6 marks, 26 hitouts
Craig played the majority of each quarter in the ruck with stints forward. He demonstrated some competitive bodywork, footwork and hitout control in ruck contests. He just needs to work harder defensively and have greater involvements at ground level.
