Priority signing Ebony Antonio says the opportunity to play for Fremantle is a dream come true.

The 25-year old defender has a strong footballing background playing for Swan Districts in the WA Women’s Football League as well as playing under Fremantle coach Michelle Cowan at Melbourne in 2015 and 2016.

Antonio played in the Swan’s 2016 grand final victory before backing up a week later to win the Women’s State Basketball League final with the Willeton Tigers.

The two-time WAWFL premiership player said the opportunity to play under Cowan was a big factor in her decision.

“To be able to play under her for Melbourne and obviously come to Freo and play under her again was a big influence in my decision to stay and play for Fremantle,” she said.

“To play for Fremantle is a dream come true and I can’t wait.”

Antonio, an accomplished basketballer who won a WNBL title with the Bendigo Spirit in 2013, said the decision to play football again wasn’t any easy one.

“It was hard to give up but at the same time I have given basketball everything and played at the highest level in the WNBL as well,”

“I’ve accomplished so much in basketball and I’m ready to give it away and hopefully be a success in the AFL.”
