The players got an extra ‘lift’ at training this morning with more than 2,000 Freo fans cheering them on during their open training session at the Victor George Kailis Oval on Wednesday morning.
Fan favourite Lachie Neale was amongst the players on the track and said it was great to see so much purple out in force.
“It’s the first time we’ve had the fans down here for pre-season and it’s super to have everyone come down and show their support,” Neale said.
“It was bit hot so it was great to have them come, it gives the boys a bit of a lift for the session too.”
Originally from South Australia, Neale plans to spend the festive season in Perth with his fiancé Jules and the 24-year-old said he was excited to be able to have the rest of his family join him in the west.
“I’ll stay in WA for the break, my mum, dad and their partners and my little brother and sisters are here staying with me, which is fantastic,” Neale said.
“It will be the first time they’ve been over here with me for Christmas.”
Hopefully the Neale family wont be too disappointed if there are no presents under the tree, with Neale admitting he was yet to start his Christmas shopping.
“I have not even started mine yet, I think tomorrow afternoon after training I’ll head to the shops and get sorted,” Neale.
“It’s just typical me, being a bit unorganised but I’ll get it done, I always do.”
Neale also had a message for the Purple Army ahead of Christmas and New Year.
“Stay safe over the festive season, have a merry Christmas and a happy new year,” Neale said.
“Thank you for all your support, the boys really appreciate it and we have the best fans in the country, we look forward to a big 2018.”
