Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon wants nothing more than to see his team continue to build ahead of round one.
The Freo Dockers take on West Coast this Sunday at Domain Stadium (formerly Patersons Stadium) in the final NAB Challenge hit-out of the season.
MATCH PREVIEW
Lyon said the team still has some areas to improve in.
“We want to practice giving really good effort,” he said.
“We just worked on some structural stuff, we’ve been a bit unhappy with some of our ball movement, just overplaying some things.
“We’re really optimistic.”
Freo is coming off a nine-point loss to 2014 runners-up Sydney last week, but Lyon could see plenty of positives in the performance.
“We took a young squad, in a real sense, to Sydney and arguably we could have had 10 of our best 22 out,” he said.
“They were up and about the Swans, they had a couple out as well, but we thought there was a bit to like.
“We’re coming off a really heavy workload for a long period…we’ll be tapering off a little bit in our training in the build to round one.”
But despite knowing the training load will decrease in the next fortnight, Lyon expects nothing less than a fierce battle on Sunday.
“What I expect is it’s West Coast, it will be intense, we’re thrilled about it,” he said.
“We played them twice last year in the pre-season, we lost both games but we kept building to a hard edge.
“We want to build to a hard edge so when the ball is bounced in round one we’re ready to go, like we have been the previous three years.”
Bounce down against West Coast is 4.10pm WST.
