Fremantle co-vice-captain Andrew Brayshaw has secured his future as a one-club player, signing a six-year contract extension to remain at the Club until 2031.

The 25-year-old midfield gun from Victoria said he never contemplated leaving the Club that drafted him in 2017.

“I’ve always wanted to be a one-club player, and now I can finally say that it’s going to happen,” Brayshaw said.

“I love the footy club, I love WA and Perth, my partner Lizzie and I have fallen in love with the joint, so we are really excited to be here for at least another six years.

“I feel like I’ve put so much work into the footy club, and they trusted me by taking me really early in the draft.

The first couple of years were really tough, but I’m just starting to see some of the success that we can have, and I wouldn’t want to miss out on any of that, so I think the next six years are going to be an amazing time to be a part of the footy club.

“I want to be right there riding every high and every low.”

Since being selected by Fremantle with pick No. 2 in the 2017 National Draft, Brayshaw has become a standout performer in the engine room, claiming a Doig Medal as the Club’s fairest and best player in 2022, the same year he earned All Australian selection.

Testament to his durability and consistency, Brayshaw has achieved five consecutive top-five finishes in the Doig Medal since 2020.

In 2022 he was also voted best player in the game by his peers, becoming the fourth youngest player to win the AFLPA Most Valuable Player award, at just 22 years of age.

“I think the whole playing group and the coaches are quite excited about what we think we can bring this year,” Brayshaw said.

“We’re  strong in all three lines, and we’re connecting really well, so I’m  excited to see what we can do, and who better to do it against than the Cats in Geelong Round 1?”

On top of his ability to consistently find the ball, Brayshaw has demonstrated outstanding continuity in his body of work, playing 17 or more games in each of his seven AFL seasons.

Four more games in 2025 will see Brayshaw reach the 150-game career milestone, making him eligible for life membership with the Club. Brayshaw will also become the 23rd player to play 150 or more games for Fremantle.

“I wouldn’t have imagined that at all but when ‘Wallsy’ (David Walls) came and interviewed me seven years ago, I remember saying to him that I wanted to be a one-club player, and now that’s possible. I’m very, very happy,” Brayshaw said.

Head of Player Personnel David Walls said Brayshaw’s unwavering commitment to Fremantle led to him being tied to the club forever.

“Free agency was there for him, but he just never entertained it,” said Walls.

“He would have been highly sought after, but it was a positive negotiation with Andy and his management that always centred on his future at Fremantle.

“Andy’s been integral to the growth and improvement of our playing list, plus our culture on and off field. He’s lived up to being selected with pick number two and has become a great leader.

“He plays hard, is truly selfless and is one of the best two-way runners in the game.”

The Brayshaw name is synonymous with WA sport and Walls said the family ties to Fremantle have never been stronger.

“He has family connections with his brothers and grand parents in WA and his parents Mark and Deb are great Fremantle people,” said Walls.

“Andy and his fiancé Lizzie are central to the culture we are building at our Club and to have them, and the broader Brayshaw family, locked in for life as heart and soul members of the Freo family is a fantastic outcome for the Club.”

Brayshaw’s signature adds to the list of 16 players signed with the Club until 2027 or beyond, all dedicated to bringing success to Fremantle.
