Fremantle’s famous cappuccino strip has been painted purple #ForTheFinals with Freo Mayor Brad Pettitt declaring the city is in the midst of purple fever.

South Terrace was given a purple make over this week while banners and flags are being rolled out across the city ahead of Freo’s blockbuster Qualifying Final with Sydney on Saturday.

“It’s a pretty exciting time, it’s got a really great atmosphere at the moment here in Freo,” Dr Pettitt said.

“You see all around town, everyone is wearing purple, the businesses are purple.

“There is a real sense of passion for the Freo Dockers.”

Dr Pettitt said the finals would bring thousands of people into Fremantle.

“The shops and all the businesses are getting behind Freo, putting up purple paraphernalia,” he said.

“We hope that as the finals intensity builds, that Freo will get more and more purple.

“It’s a great time for businesses too, you have the whole of WA’s attention on Fremantle.”

It is hard to miss Kevin Croon’s Essex Street business, The Roof and Wall Doctor.

It is decorated with dozens of purple balloons, flags and streamers.

Freo v Swans: Finals history

The New Zealander, who has lived in Australia for 36 years, adopted Fremantle as his team.

He gave Fremantle the ultimate praise for someone from rugby mad New Zealand.

“I love the Dockers like I love the All Blacks,” he said.

Mr Croon has also created a Maori message for Fremantle.

“Kia Kaha Dockers, means be strong and stay strong in the finals,” he said.

Fans can also join in the finals fever adding themselves to the Freo Fan Wall located outside the team store at Fremantle Oval #ForTheFinals.
