Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir has praised the playing group for the selection battle he faces week-in week-out due to the squad depth across both WAFL and AFL level.
In Longmuir’s Thursday morning press conference, the senior coach said the competition for spots across the ground was a good problem to have.
“I feel like we’ve got depth in all areas (of the ground),” Longmuir said.
“I feel like those players that maybe haven’t got an opportunity or have gone out of the side, have gone back and handled it really well and are playing really good team footy down at Peel.
“Adam Read (Peel’s head coach) is doing a really good job at bringing them all together and they are all playing their role.
“That is putting pressure on the guys in the team (for competition for spots).”
Young midfielder Neil Erasmus has been a consistent force in the WAFL, averaging 35 disposals and 8.6 marks in his last three WAFL appearances, with Longmuir praising the 21-year-old and his Fremantle-listed teammates for their ability and willingness to continue developing their games.
“There is still areas of his (Erasmus) game he needs to improve on, but he’s been prolific in winning the ball,” Longmuir said.

“He’s been playing as a midfielder at Peel and to give him the best opportunity, there probably needs to be a midfield role in our team open up.
“We’ll keep looking at it but he’s doing a lot right and we want to reward form, so we will keep looking at opportunities for him (Erasmus).
Meanwhile, Supplemental Selection Period pick Pat Voss starred in his return to the WAFL, kicking five goals in Peel’s win over South Fremantle.
“I was really pleased with the way he responded last week,” Longmuir said.
“He went back (to the WAFL) and played with great energy and obviously had an impact on the game.”
Fremantle elected to pass on Wednesday’s mid-season draft, with Longmuir confirming that key forward Sebit Kuek’s recovery was ahead of schedule, adding to the Club’s list depth.
“It’s been remarkable to be honest how quickly he’s responded to not only an ACL, but two shoulder operations,” Longmuir said.
“He’s done a fantastic job and is well ahead of time.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him tick off the last few boxes he needs to tick off and get out there and show what he can do because he’s been really impressive at training.”
Longmuir and the selection committee will make the tough decisions at 4.20pm WST this afternoon, naming the Club’s extended squad to take on Melbourne in Alice Springs on Sunday.
