Fremantle forward speedster Michael Frederick has given a fascinating insight into his time spent in concussion protocols following the collision with St Kilda’s Jimmy Webster in round 10.

Talking on TABtouch Radio on Wednesday morning, Frederick revealed the delayed symptoms he felt post-collision and gave a detailed insight into the tests he had to complete during the days following his collision with St Kilda's Jimmy Webster.

“I remember the play that happened and what happened, but it was literally when I went downstairs to do the SCAT and test my memory, that my memory was a bit foggy,” Frederick said.

“You have to repeat 10 words back to them, it doesn’t have to be in the order that they read them to you but normally I will get about eight or nine words, but (following the collision) I was only getting about three words right.

“It was a very good decision (by the Club) to not go back out there.

“As the game went on, I did start feeling a bit foggy in the head and my head was pounding.”

In the days following, Frederick detailed the process he and other players undergo to be cleared to return to play.

“Each day there are things that you have to tick off that are in the protocols,” Frederick said.

“The first couple days is pretty much just resting and reporting any symptoms.

“Over the week you have to do the SCAT test maybe five days after (the concussion incident).

“(The SCAT test) It’s all the stuff you have to go through on game day when you do get a head knock.

“It’s all about remembering words, all the basic stuff like who we played last week, what the time is, what day it is, what the date is, things like that.

“You can just do mild aerobic exercise and things like that, nothing too strenuous which is not too bad.

"You get well looked after within those 12 days and you kind of build into a decent training session, which I had last Saturday.

Sidelined for the Club’s round 11 draw with Collingwood, Frederick is hopeful he will make a return against the Demons in Alice Springs on Sunday 2 June following a successful recovery.

“We had a light session yesterday and did some tackling and things like that…and I got through fine and pulled up fine from that,” Frederick said.

“We have our main session tomorrow morning so hopefully I’ll be able to get through and play on the weekend.

“I was pretty good early on into the 12-day protocols so I haven’t worried too much about the head knocks or anything like that. It hasn’t rattled me or anything like that.
