Speaking at Walyalup’s Monday morning press conference, veteran forward Michael Walters said he looks forward to playing against two former teammates ahead of the Club’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash with Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) on Saturday night at Marvel Stadium.
During the press conference the 2024 Indigenous jumper was unveiled by designer and Walyalup legend Michael Johnson who explained the story of the design to the media before Walters acknowledged how proud he was to wear the jumper.
“Like 'Johnno' said we have a strong representation of Indigenous and multicultural players,” Walters said.
“I’m proud (to wear the Indigenous jumper). It’s one of those rounds that you always look forward to playing in.
“I’m always looking forward to playing in these rounds and look forward to getting it done this week as well.”
Speaking on the importance of the upcoming fixture against Euro-Yroke (St Kilda), Walters made special note of who he will be playing against.
“I’m really proud to wear it and would be proud to get it done against St Kilda (Euro-Yroke) as well. There are some players there that I’ve played with and look forward to playing against,” Walters said.
“To go away and play against the boys that I’ve mentioned in Brad (Hill) and Liam (Henry)… They are boys I really enjoyed playing with, boys I have a real connection with, so to go across and not only play against them but to go across and see them again is good.
“You want to go across and have a real impact away from Optus Stadium because at the backend of the year you know how important that is.”

Walters played alongside Hill 48 times in Fremantle colours, and 34 times with Henry across their years at the Club.
In line with Johnson's story design of paying respect to those who came before, Walters proclaimed how he loved watching Indigenous players during Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
“Over the years I’ve watched Johnno play in them, even watching Eddie Betts star at Adelaide Oval and kicking goals of the year," Walters said.
