Fremantle needs to regain its fast starts against North Melbourne on Sunday, after a sloppy first term against West Coast, says Lee Spurr.

West Coast booted seven goals in the first term of its 24-point win over Fremantle on Sunday at Domain Stadium.

Fremantle managed just one goal in the first term and kicked an inaccurate 11.14 for the game.

Spurr said it was crucial to start well against North Melbourne, who kicked 18 and 19 goals in its past two outings.

“You have to start well and come out ready to play,” Spurr said.

“West Coast came out and jumped us, we could never really get the lead.”

The Kangaroos have won their past five games and are charging up the ladder.

“North are in some good form,” he said.

“They’re really making a good charge to finals.

“It’ll be a good challenge for us and we need to be ready.”

Freo kicked 10 goals to eight in the final three quarters against West Coast but Spurr said the club cannot afford to give teams a head start.

“We showed some good spirit and fought on but we won’t get seduced by that,” he said.

“We really need to have a close review and look at why it started like that.

“Starting well has been a strength of ours, so we need to get back to that.”
