Fremantle’s AFLW team were reunited on Monday as pre-season commenced ahead of the 2023 AFLW season.
It was Lisa Webb’s first official session as Senior Coach, however the former assistant and player was more than familiar with her players and surroundings.
New draftees Emmelie Fiedler, Tahleah Mulder, Jae Flynn and Joanne Cregg were also in action in their first official training session since being selected in the 2023 AFLW Supplementary Draft in early April.
Vice captain Ange Stannett said there was a real excitement among the players.
“Everyone is always buzzing when it’s the first day back, it feels like it was a long time coming,” Stannett said.
‘We’ve done a lot of preparation for tonight, it is night one of the pre-season but everyone has been putting in the work and getting down here to do the runs and gym work together. It’s a lot nicer when you’re around each other.
“Tonight is us going to another level, there’s a bit more meaning behind it. We’ll also touch on some gameplan work pre-training and that will get us really focused.”
TIME TRIAL: Turbo continues dominance
Stannett was thrilled to have the chance to get to work with the new Senior Coach.
“Webby already has been super organised,” Stannett said.
“It’s really exciting for us as players to come into a season where there’s going to be a lot to learn in terms of a new game plan.
“Seeing already the resources that have been put in place, and the level of detail that Webby goes through with everything, is pretty incredible.
“We get a lot of confidence from what our preparation is going to look like this year.
“We also know how warm, amazing and funny Webby is, it’s really energised the whole group.”
