Walyalup have confirmed the new jumper numbers for their 2023 AFLW draftees and new recruit Serena Gibbs, as the playing group prepares for the commencement of pre-season on Monday 29 May.
Two players have also switched numbers, with Orlagh Lally moving from no.27 to the vacant no.14 and Tara Stribley moving from no.20 to no.15.
Stribley’s switch is a tribute to Freo great Kara Antonio, who was a mentor and inspiration to Stribley during their time together at both Fremantle and Swan Districts.
Gibbs will sit next to Stribley in the locker room, taking the no.16 number left by Tahlia Read. Gibbs was traded to Carlton in exchange for Read in the 2023 AFLW Sign and Trade Period.
Wing / half back Jae Flynn will wear the no.20. A train-on for Season 7, Flynn is a former state basketballer who impressed for East Fremantle in the WAFLW in 2023.
Joanne Cregg will wear the no.23. Hailing from Ireland, Cregg brought her elite pace to the Australian game this season for Subiaco, where the midfielder kicked three goals from five appearances.
Tahleah Mulder will wear the no.26. The inside midfielder made the step up from amateur footy to WAFLW in 2023, averaging 18.6 disposals for South Fremantle.
Emmelie Fiedler will wear the no.50, the same number the ruck wears when representing East Fremantle. At 187cm, Fiedler adds crucial height and ruck depth to the list and she averaged 20 hitouts per game in the WAFLW in 2023.
