New draftee Corey Wagner is determined to make the most of his third opportunity on an AFL list.
Selected at no.57 in the NAB AFL Draft on Tuesday, the former Roo and Demon is looking to bring his run and carry both at half back and on the wing.
It’s a game style that is highly valued in Justin Longmuir’s gameplan, with the senior coach one of the Fremantle contingent to meet Wagner in Melbourne for dinner following the draft on Tuesday night.
“It’s third time lucky! Playing AFL has always been the dream,” Wagner said.
“I was never going to say it’s over and the hard work pays off. It’s not over until you call it yourself.
“I was getting ready to go to bed for work tomorrow when my name was called, so it’s pretty crazy.”
The 25-year-old, who starred for Port Melbourne in the VFL this year, believes a new mindset will help him at his new Club.
“I really feel I’ve grown and matured,” Wagner said.
“The most important thing is I finally figured out the mental game, how it’s such a big thing.
“The way I play is to just enjoy the game, and making mistakes is a part of it, and it’s really helped me this year. I’ll go over to WA and look to have fun.”

Wagner hopes his pace will hold him in good stead when he joins his new teammates on the track.
“My aim at Freo is to show my strengths, that’s what I’ve told the young kids who come through at Port Melbourne,” Wagner said.
“Play to my strengths and then show people that I’m a good team person and will do anything for the team, on field and off field.”
