Fremantle have made two changes for their round seven clash with reigning premiers Adelaide at Unley Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Forward Amy Mulholland and ruck Sarah Wielstra come back into the line-up for one of the toughest tests of Freo’s AFLW season.
Mulholland missed last weekend’s 30-point loss to Melbourne, while Wielstra was named as an emergency for that clash.
Inside midfielder Dana East has been ruled out of the side due to entering the AFL’s concussion protocols following the Demons game, while first-year forward Tara Stribley has been omitted.
Senior Coach Trent Cooper said Stribley’s omission was due to the demand for bigger bodies in the team against an experienced Adelaide side.
“Tara Stribley has had a good little run for us and has shown a lot, but we’re going with bigger bodies this week,” Cooper said.
“Sarah Wielstra will come in to assist up forward and in the ruck. She’s done nothing wrong all year, whenever she’s played, she’s really competed hard so we’re looking for her to do the same.
“We used Sarah earlier on in the year (in the ruck) and I think we looked a bit small up forward at times when Mim Strom was off the ground and Roxy Roux was in the ruck.
“We’ll use Sarah either in the ruck to leave Roxy up forward or she can play forward if we decide to use Roxy in the ruck at different stages.”
Fremantle will take confidence into the tough road trip after a much-improved clash with Melbourne, which Cooper rated as Freo’s best performance of the year.
“They’re (Adelaide) are a really good team, they’ve got a few out and out stars who we have to try and contain but we also want to play the game our way,” Cooper said.
“They haven’t conceded a goal for the last two weeks so we need to penetrate their defensive wall and if we can hit the scoreboard and get them out of control a little bit, things can happen for us.”
With one win and a draw from a tough Season 7 so far, Fremantle are ready for the challenge against the Crows, who haven’t conceded a goal in their most recent big wins over the Giants and cross-town rivals Port Adelaide.
Bouncedown for the clash is at 12.10pm WST, with the game broadcast live on the Seven network and Fox Footy, as well as streamed live on Kayo and the official AFL Women’s app.
