Midfielder/forward Gabby O’Sullivan believes a drop off in concentration late in the match helped Melbourne kick away to a 30-point win at Fremantle Oval on Sunday.
Melbourne were able to capitalise on the scoreboard late, booting four goals to Freo's none.
O'Sullivan said the margin didn't necessarily tell the full story after Fremantle performed well across the first three quarters.
“It was a tale of three quarters and having a lapse in concentration in the fourth, they’re a very good side,” O’Sullivan said.
“They were able to get going and put the foot down and show why they’re a top side in the comp.
“A couple of those moments when we did lapse in our concentration, they were able to score quick goals.
“Whilst the margin was probably a little bit bigger than what it was, it doesn’t tell the whole story.”
O’Sullivan praised the tireless efforts of midfield gun and former AFLW Fairest and Best winner Kiara Bowers, who helped keep Freo in the contest over the first half of the game.
Bowers was dominant around the ground, leading all-comers for disposals (26), tackles (12), clearances (six) and metres gained (385m).
“She reckons she’s had about three days off because Nate’s been a little bit tired, so she’s had a bit more energy,” O’Sullivan said.
“It’s the 'Turbo' that we know and expect every single week.
“I think we take her for granted sometimes and she’s just showing time after time why she’s one of the best players in the comp.”
O’Sullivan also looked to tall Mim Strom who was impressive against Melbourne’s ruck duo in Lauren Pearce and Tayla Harris, finishing with 16 disposals, 11 hitouts and three clearances.
“I’m loving Mim Strom, every year she comes back for pre-season really fit and growing in confidence,” O’Sullivan said.
“I think today we saw that, especially early her covering the ground really well and taking some good marks and winning some clearances against some really good rucks.”

Fremantle now turn their attention to the second-placed Adelaide, as a round seven clash wth the Crows looms this Saturday,
“(It’s now) a six day break so look forward to getting over there, and against a really good side in Adelaide,” O’Sullivan said.
“Playing Melbourne today, it shows us the standard of footy we really need to be playing and if we can bring that again against Adelaide we might have a bit more luck.”
