Former Fremantle and Melbourne star Jeffrey Farmer has been inducted into the WA Football Hall of Fame following a ceremony at Tuesday night's Sandover Medal count.
He was one of four people inducted on the night, alongside East Perth legend Stephen Curtis, Claremont and Richmond's Michael Mitchell and 2000 Brownlow Medallist Shane Woewodin.
The West Australian Football Hall of Fame was established to recognise and enshrine players, coaches, umpires, administrators, and media representatives who have made a significant contribution to the game of Australian Football in Western Australia since its inception in 1885.
Through his AFL and WAFL career, he played 269 games and kicked 537 goals for Melbourne, Fremantle and South Fremantle.
He was a South Fremantle premiership player in 2009, won Melbourne's goal kicking three times, kicked the 1998 goal of the year and was named in Fremantle's 25 since 95 team.
He also represented Australia in the International Rules in 1998.
Farmer was honoured to enter the Hall of Fame and thanked the WAFC.
"Coming from a small town like Tambellup, something like this is the last thing you think that could happen. I'm very humbled, there are a lot of wonderful players that are in the Hall of Fame and I get the opportunity to join all of those, I'm over the moon," Farmer said.
"I'm very grateful and thankful to the Commission and want to thank everyone that's played a part in helping me get the very best out of myself with my footy career - my football clubs, my coaches, teammates, friends, family and obviously the supporters. I'm very thankful and grateful for everyone."
In the Fremantle Football Club's submission to support Farmer's induction, Club President Dale Alcock wrote that Farmer's impact on the game had been significant, highlighting his exceptional talent and ability to draw a crowd through his outstanding performances.
In the book Fremantle Dockers – An Illustrated History by Les Everett, Fremantle games record holder, Doig Medallist and fellow All Australian David Mundy described Farmer as “an absolute legend and freak of the game” before adding “I don’t think there will be many small forwards as good as him”.
Farmer and Mundy also share the honour of having kicked a goal after the siren to win a game for Fremantle, with Farmer's coming against the Dees in 2002 at Subiaco Oval.
