After failing to win a single game in Melbourne in 2011, Fremantle under Ross Lyon has displayed a steely resolve away from Perth, winning two games out of three in Melbourne this year.

The only loss came against Collingwood when Freo showed good heart to fight back from a 40-point deficit and get within 17-points of the 2010 premiers, before losing by 29.

Fremantle has already tasted victory this season at Saturday’s venue, Etihad Stadium, when it beat St Kilda in a pressure-cooker atmosphere in round 4.

Melbourne, on the other hand, has been poor at Etihad. The Demons have lost their past 12 matches there and won just two of the past 21.

While it was a different team and period, Lyon also enjoyed a dominant period at Etihad when he coached St Kilda. The Saints were incredibly successful at the ground, particularly in 2009 and 2010 when they won a total of 23 matches there.

If Fremantle can bring the same effort it has brought to its matches in Melbourne this season, it should feel confident of bringing the four points home on Saturday.
