Fremantle will be without Janelle Cuthbertson for up to six weeks after sustaining a fractured jaw at training.

Cuthbertson had been preparing to make her return to the Fremantle line-up to face the Western Bulldogs after missing the previous two matches through the AFL’s concussion return to play protocols

Fremantle’s Head of Football Operations and Performance Bob Murphy gave an update on the defender.

“Janelle was training under the AFL’s concussion return to play protocols when an unfortunate collision with a teammate resulted in her injury,” Murphy said.

“Janelle underwent surgery on Friday, which was successful, and we will now support her in her recovery.”

Murphy highlighted the 2021 All Australian defender’s ability to push through adversity after playing with a broken rib for the majority of last season.

“Janelle has overcome so many challenges in her sporting career both as a footballer and formerly a tennis player and we expect her to make a full recovery from this injury,” Murphy said.

“Her renowned courage and professionalism will be called on once again as she pushes to re-join her teammates on the field in the lead up to this year’s finals series.”

Fremantle face the Bulldogs on Tuesday at VU Whitten Oval with bouncedown at 7.10pm EDST (4.10pm WST).

The team will be announced on Monday afternoon via fremantlefc.com.au from 2.30pm WST.
