Homesick Greater Western Sydney forward Cam McCarthy's hopes of getting to Fremantle have been dashed, with his management admitting a trade in 2015 would not happen.
The 20 year-old – who is contracted until the end of 2017 – told the Giants he wanted out of Sydney for personal reasons, but the club has stood firm.
Speaking on NAB Trade Radio on Thursday morning, McCarthy's manager Colin Young conceded that despite plenty of effort from the Dockers, his client looks certain to remain at GWS.
"They've dug the heels in and I don't think they're going to move him on, so unfortunately it's (not) going to happen," Young said.
"I'm sure they're (Fremantle) still pitching and batting hard for him, they've left no stone unturned, we've done all we could.
"Unfortunately I think the (Tom) Boyd trade last year has probably affected this trade - this trade probably should have been done a week ago, but looks like it won't happen."
Last year's Boyd bombshell saw the former No.1 draft pick head to the Western Bulldogs on a huge contract after he spent only one season with the Giants.
That came after GWS stated Boyd "would not be traded under any circumstances."
Young said even if McCarthy pulled on a Giants jumper in 2016, it wouldn't change his mind about his future.
Young added the two clubs would find themselves in the same situation in 12 months' time.
"He certainly wants to finish his career in WA," Young said.
"He wants to play football in Western Australia and be close to his family, so I've got no doubt that if we don't get a trade done today, in 12 months' time (talks will get) going again.
"They (GWS) feel that they can (get him to stay long-term) but I think Cam has had a chat to the coach and the club in saying that he's going to finish his career in Western Australia.
"It's not so much playing football with GWS, it's more so living in Western Australia and being close to his family and friends and some other issues, so there's no doubt that he won't be playing with GWS when his contact is finished."
The exciting forward kicked 35 goals from 20 games last season.
