The 22-year-old has been out of AFL action since the injury in round 5, but he has performed well in the VFL in the past fortnight.
Essendon general manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said on essendonfc.com.au that Hibberd would bolster the Bombers’ side.
“Michael will certainly put his hand up this week for selection,” Hamilton said.
“He’s now had two games back through the VFL and played really well against Box Hill, so I would suggest he is a strong chance to make a return this week.”
Reigning Bombers’ best-and-fairest winner David Zaharakis will miss the game after suffering a quad strain during training last week.
“It’s a longer term injury and he is still likely to be out for another four weeks, but it provides the opportunity for others to step up and provide the run and pace that we really need in the side,” Hamilton said.
