For the first time in Club history, Fremantle sang the team song after a win in Launceston following a 62-point win against Hawthorn at UTAS Stadium on Saturday.
The club’s only other win at the ground was the infamous ‘Sirengate’ game in 2006, a game that finished as a ‘draw’ until Freo were rightfully awarded the points days later.
Mundy is the only current player from the 2006 team that remained on the list, and he was thrilled to finally have the opportunity to celebrate a win in Tasmania.
'It's fantastic to get a win like that in Nat's 200th' | David Mundy
David Mundy discusses Nat Fyfe's 200th game and Fremantle's round 17 win over Hawthorn
“It hasn’t happened often, two wins now and one time singing the song,” Mundy said.
“2006 was the last time we officially won here and we all know how that ended.
“To get another win, especially after the couple weeks on the road that we’ve had together, it’s fantastic.”
Mundy was pleased to be able to sing the song for his teammates from 2006, a game that was the AFL debut of one of his best friends, Paul Duffield.
While senior coach Justin Longmuir was on the list in 2006, he didn’t take part in the game due to injury.
“It was a really unique time and Longmuir brought it up after the game,” Mundy said.
“Obviously that game was absolute chaos and still really vivid in my memory, it was Paul Duffield’s first game as well. It was great.”
ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS
Mundy was once again one of Freo’s main contributors in the midfield with 30 disposals and six clearances while captain Nat Fyfe stole the show in his 200thgame with 31 disposals and a goal.
