Fremantle ruck Sean Darcy has thrown down the gauntlet to himself and his teammates – Freo are good enough to play finals.
Speaking on TripleM, the 23-year-old said that age and inexperience are no longer an excuse, believing that Fremantle have the talent and ability to compete against any team.
Freo currently sit 10th and two points out of the top eight and have a crucial clash against Hawthorn at UTAS Stadium on Saturday – a ground where Freo have won once in 12 attempts.
“A couple of years ago (the narrative was that) we were developing and things like that, whereas now we’re like no, we really want to play this, we really want to compete against the best teams,” Darcy told TripleM.
“We’re jealous when we’re sitting there and watching the best teams play in September.
“I feel like the narrative over the last two or three years has shifted, that we’re not shying away from it anymore.
“We’re really striving for finals, that’s our goal.”
Darcy said that Fremantle know that fixing their inaccuracy in front of goal was key to taking the next step.
“I feel like we’re playing some really good footy at the moment but we’re just not getting the look on the scoreboard that we really need to do to win games,” Darcy said.
“We really want to make finals and play against the best of the best this year and we’re going to have to keep going.”
