Adam Cerra says the Fremantle playing group still have the belief that finals are within reach despite letting an opportunity slip against Carlton.

The 16-point loss meant finishing the round in 10th, while a win would have seen Freo move into the eight.

Cerra was again impressive in the clash, collecting seven clearances, the equal-most for Freo alongside Caleb Serong. The 21-year-old also had 24 disposals, 11 contested possessions, five marks and four tackles.

Speaking to ABC Radio, Cerra said Freo had a playing list that was capable of making finals and the entire group was hungry to get the season back on track.

“(Finals are) definitely within reach. We’re focused on Hawthorn this week and we’re going to try and take it game by game. At the end of the day, we’re just trying to get better every week and the finals will come when they come, when we’re ready for it,” Cerra told ABC Radio.

“I believe we’ve got a group that’s good enough to make it. It’s just a matter of being able to execute our game plan each week and back it in to have a really good finish to the year.”

The young-gun midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the season and he reiterated the plan was to wait until the end of the season to discuss his future at Freo.

“I’m loving my football this year and I’m taking it week to week for the moment,” Cerra said.

“Obviously, I have a decision to make at the end of the year and I’m sure the time will come when it’s right to sit down and discuss and we’ll sort those things out. At the moment, it’s not at the front of my mind.

“I’ve got time with that. I’m just trying to enjoy my footy and push for finals this year.”
