Adam Cerra completes a running session on Thursday on a training oval outside Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Fremantle are hopeful of seeing young gun midfielder Adam Cerra make his return in round nine against Essendon.

If available, Cerra’s pace will be crucial through the midfield at Marvel Stadium and Longmuir said the 21-year-old was tracking well to return from an ankle injury.

Defender Alex Pearce is also a week away from a return to football.

Longmuir said Fremantle were eager to see Pearce return via the WAFL for Peel next weekend, however a WAFL bye next week will likely push his schedule back by a week.

“We’re pretty confident Cez will be right for next week,” Longmuir said.

“Alex is probably a couple weeks away. Unfortunately we’ve got a bye in the WAFL next week, which might set him back an extra week.

“He’s tracking really well. He’ll do some training today.”

Fremantle face a test on Sunday at the Gabba, taking on a Brisbane team that dismantled flag fancies Port Adelaide by 49 points in round seven.

Longmuir said Fremantle would focus internally to improve following a disappointing RAC Derby loss.

“Brisbane’s playing some outstanding footy, especially at the Gabba,” Longmuir said.

“We just have to focus on us to get back to the fundamentals of our game.

“I’m sure you’ll see a better showing from us than what we did against West Coast.

“We felt the fundamentals of our game broke down, especially the basics around ground ball and skill execution.

“We’ll put plenty of work into that this week and be ready for Brisbane.”
