The latest episode of Old Bull Young Buck is out, with hosts David Mundy and Griffin Logue taking on the hard hitting topics – grilling guest James Aish about his habit of wearing long sleeve jumpers.
An honest Aish said his habit of wearing the sleeves started when he was at Collingwood and admitted it may come from a place of insecurity.
“The first real long sleeve I wore was for the Pies and ultimately, just for something different, I just wanted to try something. It was comfy and maybe subtly, I was trying to stand out a little bit,” Aish said.
“To be honest, it’s just because I’m skinny. I just try and cover my arms up a bit. That’s probably the main thing!”
Mundy and Aish joked about the speedy midfielder’s hard work on his arms in the gym.
“You’ve been here 18 months, I’ve never seen anyone do more work on their pipes,” Mundy said.
“It’s the slow gains!” Aish responded.
While senior coach Justin Longmuir was one of the original long-sleeve wearers at Fremantle, Aish credited Rory Lobb as the pioneer of the current squad.
He said he’s managed to recruit Michael Frederick as a fellow sleeve wearer.
“I think I’ve got ‘Rick’ (Frederick) along for the journey now,” Aish said.
“Rick’s probably turned into the one who’s more keen now. Pre-game he’s right onto ‘what’s the weather doing, can we get into them?’ If he goes, I go.
“Lukey Ryan, he keeps talking about it (wearing sleeves)…it’s unlikely but I think we’ll try and get him.”
As Aish works on recruiting Ryan, Mundy ruled out making the switch.
“In an under 10s game back in Victoria, kicking the dew off the ground. I might have slipped one on every now and again,” Mundy said.
“I walked off the field and Dad wouldn’t look me in the eyes afterwards. That kind of sent a message pretty early.”
