Fremantle have farewelled Alex Williams, Tarnee Tester and Jess Trend after the club announced the trio would not be offered contracts for 2022.
Williams was an inaugural player with the GWS Giants in 2017 before being signed by Fremantle ahead of the 2018 season.
The 28-year-old last played for Fremantle in round six of 2019, a game in which Williams sustained an ACL injury in her right knee.
“We were very fortunate to be able to get her across to Freo and she was the club’s number one key defender for a long time until she did her ACL against Geelong,” said senior coach Trent Cooper.
“Alex is highly regarded by her teammates and coaching staff alike and is a person who I could easily see transition into a coach in the future.”
A former member of Fremantle’s AFLW academy, Tester was signed by Fremantle as a free agent towards the end of last year.
Tester was originally drafted by West Coast with pick no.56 in 2019, the Eagles third selection of the draft.
She played four out of a possible six games for West Coast in 2020 before being delisted at the end of the season.
Trend was moved to Fremantle’s inactive list in October last year after pursuing a private opportunity outside of football.
The 29-year-old made a bittersweet return to football this year captaining Hawthorn in the VFLW, however, the outing was dampened with Trend sustaining an ACL injury late in the game.
“In particular, we can’t thank Alex enough for the contribution she has made to this football club,” said Fremantle’s Head of AFLW Darryn Fry.
“Unfortunately, for both Alex and Tarnee injuries have significantly impacted the past season or so.”
“All three are of outstanding character and we wish Alex, Tarnee and Jess all the best with their future endeavours.”
Added to the retirement of defender Leah Mascall, the delisting’s complete four list changes in the lead-up to the women’s sign and trade period with a date to be set following the next AFL Commission meeting on Wednesday 12 May.
