Sean Darcy’s efforts in Fremantle’s win against Hawthorn at Optus Stadium on Sunday will go down as one of the more impressive performances from a ruckman, according to a renowned AFL statistician.

The number-cruncher known as ‘Swamp’ on Twitter, who provides in-depth statistical insight for Channel 7’s AFL broadcasts, praised Darcy in an interview on the Hard Ball Gets podcast with The West’s Chris Robinson.

“Sean Darcy’s game was quite amazing,” Swamp said.

“He had 10 contested possessions, five contested marks. The 10 hit outs to advantage and three goals, that’s rare air for even the best and most well established ruckmen to achieve in a game.”

Playing primarily as a forward who pitched in to relieve teammate Lloyd Meek in the ruck, Darcy was dominant in both roles.

He is the only player in the AFL to take five contested marks inside 50 this season, which led to his three goals.

As a ruck, he gave Freo’s mids first use with 10 of his hitouts going to advantage.

Robinson reported that only Collingwood star Brodie Grundy has achieved a higher hitout to advantage rate in a game this year.
